WEST CAPE MAY – The West Cape May Environmental Commission is pleased to present an informative program by Cape May County Certified Master Gardener, Evelyn Lovitz, at 6:30 p.m. on March 27 at West Cape May Boro Hall, 732 Broadway, West Cape May. Free pizza will be served.
Evelyn Lovitz will speak on the importance of biodiversity on Cape Island with a focus on native plants as an alternative to invasive flora imports. She will discuss how invasive species came to our shores and at what point they became invasive and not just exotic. Learn how prevalent these invasive species have become in our open space and how difficult and expensive they are to eradicate. Best of all learn how to prevent and control invasive flora in your own garden.
Evelyn has been creating a wildlife garden for the last 14 years from a property that was all lawn, ornamental trees and shrubs. She has been working with the National Wildlife Foundation and NJ Audubon in an attempt to get the entire Cape Island certified as a Wildlife Habitat Community. While maintaining the teaching gardens at the Nature Center of Cape May with a strong group of volunteers, Evelyn has also spearheaded the Nature Center of Cape May’s annual native plant sale for the past seven years.
