June 8 Is World Oceans Day in Lower Township

CAPE MAY — June 8 is a yearly global celebration of Oceans to raise awareness in keeping our Oceans clean and water life protected. Activities presented globally give people opportunities to make a difference in their own communities to protect our living waters of the planet, including rivers and streams that lead into Oceans and Bays, where the fresh waters meet the salt water. “The ocean refuses no river” – Rumi
Boaters: Take a short boat paddle (in any water craft, life jackets required) and join the boat parade from the put in launch point at Higbees Beach South end of the Canal, end of New England Road to take out landing at Sunset Beach near shipwreck, Sunset Blvd., Lower Township, Cape May Boaters launch 10:00 a.m. to about 12.

Camping: Tenters welcome, first come first serve, RSVP!
10:00 a.m. – Boaters Launch from Higbees Beach at the Canal.
10:00 a.m. – Activities begin at Sunset Beach by the shipwreck awaiting boaters to arrive.
11 a.m.-12 – Boaters arrive on beach greeted by conch shell horn blowing, drumming and dance.
1:00 p.m. – Make a promise that protects oceans and waterways.
5-6 p.m. – Community Dinner: Good Earth Organic Eatery, 600 Park Blvd., West Cape May. RSVP: 609-898-6161.
7:30-8:20 p.m. – Marvin Hume Flag Raising Sunset Beach.
9:00 p.m. – Drum Circle and Bonfire at the Sunset Beach Sportsman’s Club. Sing, dance, and drum with us. Bring your drums and great ideas for keeping our waters clean.
