Intense Heat Freezes Middle Thorofare Bridge

TWO MILE — The Middle Thorofare Bridge was stuck open about 3 p.m. Tue., July 6 due to high temperatures that were in the high 90s.
The Cape May County Bridge Commission requested that Erma Fire Department not spray the metal span, as had been done in previous years when the bridge could not close. Instead, the commission asked that the span, which was open to allow marine traffic through, be allowed to cool and contract on its own.
Lower Township Police Department posted signs and barricades on Ocean Drive, which links Cape May and Five Mile Beach.
