CAPE MAY – New Jersey Audubon’s Nature Center of Cape May is offering Girl Scout merit badge programs this fall and winter. These are 4-hour, weekend programs. Dates, times and descriptions are below. Register a minimum of two days in advance of each program at the Center, 1600 Delaware Avenue in Cape May, or by phone 609-898-8848.
Sky Badge: Migration in the Sky program, Nov. 2, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Girl Scout Seniors will discover migration strategies of birds and learn how wind and weather affect their journeys. Study flight and the physical adaptations birds have made to survive and make these great migrations. Activities will be at the Nature Center followed by a field trip to Cape May Point State Park.
Trees Badge: Nov. 9, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Girl Scout Cadettes earn their tree badge through fun activities and an in-depth investigation into the interesting lives of trees. Cadettes will learn about tree anatomy, seasonal changes, and the forest life-cycle. Through a field investigation of a woodland, they will identify trees and the animals that rely on them to survive.
Water and Wildlife Exploration (Water) Badge: Nov. 17, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Girl Scout Ambassadors will explore coastal waterways and the critical importance of water for the survival of humans and wildlife alike. They will delve into human water use, water conservation and current water issues. They will also discover and identify the surprising number of migratory birds that utilize our coastal waters during winter months. From sea ducks to gannets and loons to grebes, scouts will explore the local ocean and coastal waterways and the northern birds that winter here.
