CAPE MAY — A high surf advisory is in effect until 7 a.m. EST Friday, Nov. 7.
A coastal flood advisory in effect from 10 p.m. Nov. 6 to 7 a.m. EST Nov. 7
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a coastal flood advisory which is in effect from 10 p.m. this evening to 7 a.m. EST Friday.
The high surf advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. EST Friday.
Low pressure located about 120 miles southeast of Cape Henlopen, Del. will move very little over the next 24 hours. As a result, waves of six to seven feet will break on the coasts of Delaware and New Jersey.
The high surf and northeast winds will cause beach erosion and contribute to unsafe conditions for anyone thinking about going into the water. High surf can also cause property damage in spots along the coast that have lost beach protection from earlier storms since September.
The strong north to northeast winds have caused an increase in the tide levels along the coast and is not allowing the back bays to drain at low tide. As a result, some tidal flooding may occur at the next high tide in the early morning hours of Friday.
Even though we are between the high tide producing new and full moon cycle, the rising waters in the back bay may pile up around the time of high tide and spill on to some roads. It would be a good idea if you live in the flood prone areas to move your car before going to sleep tonight.
A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate some flooding of low areas along the shore. In this case, mainly the back bays.
