Cape May Suspends Rec Programs at Franklin Street School

CAPE MAY – Effective Jan. 1, 2020, the City of Cape May suspended all recreation programs scheduled at the Franklin Street School, 720 Franklin St.
According to a release, environmental samplings for asbestos, mold and lead were taken at the site and were compared to industry standards set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Test results in the gym were acceptably below newly established HUD standards effecetive Jan. 1, 2020.
Test results in the kitchen, located off the gym, were above the new HUD standards and would require that area to be closed to the public.
As a precautionary measure, the city suspended all programs and closed the entire building to the public while pursuing alternate locations for municipal recreation programs.
