CAPE MAY — Solar panel systems are coming to two city buildings.
At a July 21 meeting, City Council approved a $219,500 contract with Ray Angelini, of Sewell, N.J. for solar panel systems for Lifeguard Headquarters on Beach Avenue and the Public Works Building on Canning House Lane.
City Manager Bruce MacLeod said the solar installations must be completed by February 2010 to receive rebates from the Department of Environmental Protection and Board of Public Utilities.
Cost for the solar system for Lifeguard Headquarters is $50,600 which will receive a $26,500 state rebate. Cost for the Public Works Building is $168,900, which will receive a state rebate of $77,500, said MacLeod.
The solar panels will power only the public works building and not the city’s desalination plant or water/sewer plant, he said.
Solar panels will be installed on dormers on the ocean side of Lifeguard Headquarters and on the west side of the “A” frame roof of the Public Works Building.
