Bill Provides $176 Million for NJ Beaches, Over $15 Million Locally

WASHINGTON –– President George W. Bush signed an appropriations bill Dec. 26 that included $176 million in funding for New Jersey flood prevention and beach replenishment projects.
Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) helped craft the legislation, which would fund over $15 million in Cape May County regional projects.
“These funds will go a long way towards preventing flooding, saving lives and protecting New Jersey’s homes and businesses from severe storms,” Lautenberg said.
Area projects funded in the bill include: Ocean City beaches, $2.8 million; Avalon and North Wildwood beaches, $4.7 million; Brigantine to Great Egg Harbor inlets, $876,744; Lower Cape May Meadows ecosystem, $4.7 million; Cape May Inlet to Lower Township, $245,016; Cold Spring Inlet, $414,264; Hereford to Cape May shore protection, $251,904; and NJ Intracostal Waterway, $988,920.
