MAYS LANDING– Atlantic City Electric recently launched its new Energy Wise Rewards Program that will help residential customers save energy, save money and go greener. The program is being phased in by counties, beginning with Ocean, Burlington and Camden. Energy Wise Rewards is the company’s Direct Load Control Program which was approved by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities in 2009.
During summer periods of peak electric demand, Energy Wise Rewards works to reduce electricity usage by “cycling” central air conditioner compressors for short periods of time during peak system loads or emergency conditions. The program will help prevent power outages, keep electricity prices lower longer and reduce carbon emissions that contribute to global warming.
Energy Wise Rewards offers customers a choice of a programmable thermostat or digital cycling unit, installed by the utility at no additional cost. Either device reduces energy usage. Residential customer participation is entirely voluntary, with a one-time bill credit of $50 dollars following the installation of a device. The program has a targeted demand response reduction of approximately 10 megawatts in 2010 and approximately 51 megawatts, roughly 42,000 participants, by year end 2014. The company will recover program costs through its Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) Recovery Charge.
The Energy Wise Rewards Program is being implemented by Atlantic City Electric’s partner, Comverge Inc.
