COURT HOUSE – The 22nd annual New Jersey Envirothon, a natural resources problem-solving competition for high school students, will take place May 2 in Cape May County, with 185 students from 35 high school teams in 14 counties participating.
The festivities will kick off at 8 a.m. at the Cape May County 4-H Fairgrounds in Cape May Court House. The Envirothon tests the students’ knowledge of natural resources-related topics, including soils, forestry, aquatics, wildlife ecology and a current environmental issue. This year’s theme is “Urban – Community Forestry.”
The students on the winning team will receive college scholarships, other awards and will go on to represent New Jersey at the 2015 North American Envirothon at Missouri State University Springfield, Missouri July 27- Aug. 2, 2015.
The Envirothon is sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, State Soil Conservation Committee; NJ Association of Conservation Districts; United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service; New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection; 15 Soil Conservation Districts; and Rutgers Cooperative Extension.
