COURT HOUSE – The NJ Tree Foundation, in partnership with the Middle Township Environmental Committee is giving away 200 trees to residents of Cape May County on a first come-first served basis. The trees will be available for pick up during the township’s Harvest Festival on Oct. 26, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at 33 Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. Available species are Red Maple and Flowering Dogwood. Cape May County residents must fill out a simple application at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/XVDM3B3 to receive a tree. Application deadline is 10/24/2013 or until all trees are gone. Limit of one tree per household.
Each tree is 2-3’ tall in a 1- gallon pot and will easily fit into a car. Tree planting and care instructions will be provided at pickup.
About the trees –
Red Maple, Acer rubrum: A large sized tree growing 50-70′ tall. Pyramidal in shape, with vibrant red fall color. Do not plant this tree near or under utility wires!
Flowering Dogwood, Cornus florida: A small tree reaching 25-30’ tall and wide. Blooms small cream-colored flowers.
The NJ Tree Foundation is partnering with the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee to plant 2,014 trees as part of the 2014 Super Bowl Environmental Program. As part of this effort, 1,800 2-4′ trees will be given away in New Jersey counties that were most negatively impacted by Hurricane Sandy – Atlantic, Bergen, Cape May, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, and Union. We will also be planting 214 large trees, 12-15′ tall, throughout New Jersey. This tree giveaway is sponsored by the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service and the Super Bowl Environmental Committee.
