Atlantic Cape Board of Trustees Approves Contracts and Personnel Matters

MAYS LANDING — The Board of Trustees at Atlantic Cape Community College met Feb. 23 at the college’s Mays Landing Campus to approve personnel matters, contracts and purchases.
Contracts and Purchases Approved:
–Software license renewal, PCM Sales, Holmdel, $30,129.
–Merchant card services, one-year extension of agreement, Official Payments, Reston, Virginia.
–Two-year agreement for banking services with Cape Bank.
–U.S. Security Associates Inc., Atlantic City, contract extension through June 30, 2016, not to exceed $230,000.
–Electronic and information technology assessment, Interactive Accessibility Inc., Sudbury, Massachusetts, not to exceed $274,000.
In Personnel Action, the Board Approved:
–Sabbatical leaves for Lisa Stein, professor of early childhood education, and Linda Wohlman, chef educator, for the fall 2016 semester.
–A 5 percent base salary increase for Donna Vassallo, dean, career education, effective Feb. 24.
–A 2 percent base salary increase effective July 1, for all full-time employees not represented in bargaining unit negotiations, and the following personnel reappointments, contingent upon appropriation of required funding and approval of that appropriation in the FY’17 budget.

In Other Business, the Board Approved:
–The financial statement for seven months ending Jan. 31, 2016.
–The transfer of $500,000 from the FY’15 year-end unrestricted fund balance to the restricted fund in an account designated for funding the required actions set forth in the Consent Decree with the National Federation for the Blind.
In Grant Matters, the Board:
–Approved submitting an application to Easton Foundations USA for a $1,500 grant to cover some costs to attend the United States Intercollegiate National Championships at Michigan State University in May.
–Approved partnering in Camden County College’s grant application to the U.S. Department of Labor, H-1B TechHire Partnership Grants program, for a subgrant to train up to 25 people through the Health Professions Institute, over the term of June 1, 2016-May 31, 2020.
In the President’s Report:
–Dr. Peter L. Mora, president, announced the college received a College and Career Readiness Partnership Grant with the Wildwood School District, aimed at enhancing the capacity of students to come to Atlantic Cape college-ready.
The $250,000 grant will allow the college and Wildwood High School to implement career and college-readiness programs, including career workshops and boot camp beginning in March. Students will be assessed so they can find out where they will best fit career wise. “If they know what career they want to pursue when entering college they are more successful,” said Andre Richburg, dean of enrollment management and college relations. The college will host a five-day career boot camp at the Cape May County Campus in June for up to 30 Wildwood High School seniors.
