ERMA – For eight weeks, sixth graders at Sandman Consolidated School were in the L.E.A.D. class.
They learned the negative effects drugs, alcohol and tobacco have on the body. They learned what peer pressure could do; they learned decision making as well as the effects of bullying. Finally, they learned the importance of setting goals.
Teaching those lessons in the Law Enforcement Against Drugs (L.E.A.D.) were Lower Township Police Officers Jennifer Anzelone and Eric Coombs.
All the classroom learning was done May 25, and rain aside, there was a field day for those students at Naval Air Station Wildwood.
When the rain stopped, the students went outside to watch a demonstration of the Jaws of Life hydraulic tool, by Erma Volunteer Fire Company firefighters. They cut off the roof of a vehicle, as they must do in serious vehicle crashes.
They also viewed a Villas Fire Co. ladder truck. Finally, before the donated Domino’s pizzas and Mr. Softee ice cream, they watched the K-9 Unit of the Cape May County Sheriff’s Department.
Sad-looking bloodhounds, Cooper with Sgt. Russell Norcross, and Hank with Sgt. Beth Perednas showed what they could do in the battle against crime.
When the food was done, it was time to jump and slide on inflated bounce and slide gear set up inside the hangar.
Coombs noted his appreciation to the local businesses that helped to make the day an enjoyable end to the L.E.A.D. classes.
Cape May County – All the spouting and you didn’t change the world a single bit. Weeek after week year after year. Not a single thing. Please moderator your authority is nonsense and don’t leave a note I don’t want to…
