DEL HAVEN – A few weeks ago, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 44 in Del Haven faced a crisis. Loss of a corporate donor meant the organization did not have the funds to cover vehicle insurance for two of the vans used to transport veterans for medical appointments.
Middle Township Committeeman Timothy Donohue heard about the problem and established a Go-Fund-Me page to attract donations.
The Herald published a story that caught the eye of members of the American Legion Post 331 in Stone Harbor which subsequently donated $1,000 to the cause.
Now the $5,800 annual insurance bill has been covered in full. Among the 15 donors to the Go-Fund-Me effort was one who made a donation of $4,500 posting, “Lets stand together to help these veterans, who selflessly stood on the front lines of our freedom and sacrificed to protect our American way of life.”
In total, Donohue was able to present the DAV Chapter 44 with a check for $5,044 which, with the funds from the American Legion Post 331, covered the insurance and provided some added flexibility for the ongoing expense of maintenance on the aging vans.
