Woodbine State Police Release Arrest and Activities Report, Dec. 6 – Dec. 22

WOODBINE – The following are the arrests made by the Woodbine State Police and their activities from Dec. 6-Dec. 22.
Arrests: The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendants are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Alexis Witkowsky, 19, from Cape May and Karl Schmitter, 19, from Woodbine, were both charged with possession of marijuana (under 50 grams) and drug paraphernalia by Trooper Mark Wettengel Dec. 9. He and Trooper Kyle Danter were conducting a property check on Jake’s Landing Rd. in Dennis Twp. when they came in contact with the two subjects who were parked in a vehicle. Their subsequent investigation led to the discovery of the contraband.
Julia Gilbert, 26, from Mays Landing, was charged with possession of marijuana (under 50 grams) and drug paraphernalia by Trooper II John Wheeler Dec. 10. He and Trooper Christopher Warwick stopped the suspect for speeding on SH 50 in Upper Twp. Their subsequent investigation led to the discovery of the contraband.
Jose Gonzalez, 20, from Vineland, was charged by Trooper Kyle Morley Dec. 12 with simple assault for allegedly punching a female victim during an argument. He was charged and released pending court.
Michael Kopaczewski, 52, from West Chester, Pa. was arrested and charged by Trooper Matt D’Augustine Dec. 13 with unlawful possession of a handgun; possession of hollow point ammunition; prescription legend drugs and DWI. Suspect was stopped for speeding during which the handgun was seen in plain view by Trooper D’Augustine. His subsequent investigation led to the discovery of the additional contraband. Suspect was processed and lodged in Cape May County Correctional Center.
Nicholas Smith, 20, from Downingtown, Pa. and Joseph Devine, 19, from Coatesville, Pa. were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana (under 50 grams) and drug Paraphernalia by Trooper Ryan Gillespie Dec. 14. Suspect was stopped for headlight out. Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of the contraband. Both subjects were processed and released pending court.
DWI Arrests:
Dec. 6: Andrea Scattolini, 23, from Vineland, N.J.
Dec. 13: Michael Kopaczewski, 52, from West Chester, Pa.
Dec. 14: Stephen Saudargas, 57, from Palermo
Dec. 22: Virginia Karrasch, 24, from Petersburg
Dec. 22: Michael Bravo, 24, from Court House
Activities:
Woodbine Troopers participated in the local community by a station initiated program called “Adopt-A-Family.” Through donations given directly by Troopers at the station, three families were chosen to be unofficially “adopted” by the Woodbine station. The families received a gift card Dec. 22 to help bless them during this Christmas season. Families were chosen from recommendations given by a community agency in the area.
Lt. Doug Pearson spoke to residents at the Ocean View Rehab/ Assisted Living Center on Rt. 9 in Ocean View Dec. 22. Topics spoken on were various scams that have been or are prevalent, and which target seniors. Included were:
– Utility scams where some people have been contacted by someone claiming to represent a utility company saying their service would be shut off unless they sent money in immediately.
– Another was a tax scam where someone representing a local municipality claimed their taxes were in arrears and payment needed to be made.
– Other phone and mail scams where a subject promises money or an inheritance if they first send in money.
– Elderly abuse
– Guarding personal property
– The importance to report to the police any of these listed above if they occur or any instances where they feel targeted, threatened or harassed.
