Woodbine Man Faces Axe-Handle Assault Charges

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP POLICE RELEASE:
BURLEIGH — On July 19, 2009 at 3:00am police received a call of a domestic dispute with an assault.
Police responded to The Catalina Motel to find that the female victim had been hit in the head and leg with an axe handle. The victim reported that her live-in boyfriend had hit her with an axe handle in the front of the head and on the leg. She also reported that he put both of his hands around her neck and strangled her until she was able to get him off by hitting him in the face with a ceramic ashtray.
The accused, Michael T. Knight, 47, of Woodbine, fled the scene prior to police arrival. Charges were lodged against the accused for Aggravated Assault.
Rio Grande Rescue transported the victim to Cape Regional Medical Center.
Ptl. Loftus is investigating.
