COURT HOUSE — Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Chief Edward Donohue of the Lower Township Police Department have announced the conclusion of a narcotics investigation involving the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force, the Lower Township Police Department and the Cape May County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 Unit.
According to a release, on Wed., Nov. 10, the Cape May County Sheriff’s Department’s Tip Line received information concerning narcotics activity in the North Cape May section of Lower Township.
After receiving that information, members of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Unit and the Intelligence Unit coordinated an investigation with members of the Lower Township Police Detective Division.
On Thur., Nov. 11, the Lower Township Police initiated a motor vehicle stop on a silver Lexus, being operated by Daniel Carson, 28, a Woodbine resident.
Carson was arrested for an outstanding child support warrant.
The juvenile passenger of the vehicle was subsequently discovered to be in possession of 100 bags of suspected heroin. The Cape May County Sheriffs K-9 Unit was called and the K-9 indicated that the vehicle might contain additional contraband.
The Lower Township Police executed a court-authorized search warrant and seized additional bags of suspected heroin.
Carson was charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, a third degree crime; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance with Intent to Distribute in an amount under one half ounce, a third degree crime; and Employing a Juvenile in a Drug Distribution Scheme, a second degree crime. Carson was committed to the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.
According to Department of Corrections records Carson was convicted of prior weapons and possession charges in 2003, 2005 and 2006.
The juvenile was charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance with the Intent to Distribute in an amount less than ‘A ounce.
The juvenile was released to the parent.
Persons convicted of second degree crimes may be sentenced between 5 and 10 years in New Jersey State Prison and persons convicted of third degree crimes may be sentenced between 3 and 5 years in prison.

Prosecutor Taylor and Chief Donohue commended the cooperative efforts of the Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force, the Lower Township Police Department and the Cape May County Sheriffs Department. Prosecutor Taylor stated the Prosecutor’s Office would continue to aggressively target individuals involved in drug distribution in Cape May County.
