Woman Who Knocked Out Power to Over 18,000 in March Pleads Guilty to Drunk Driving

COURT HOUSE — The former West Wildwood resident, who caused a power outage to over 18,000 Atlantic City Electric customers in Middle Township and Stone Harbor in March, pleaded guilty to a list of charges in Middle Township municipal court on Thursday, May 20.
On March 27, Denise M. Pomykacz, 26, of Route 130, Burlington, crashed into a main utility pole on Reeves Street, between Ticks and Gibbs Streets in Whitesboro and then fled the scene.
Joseph McCorriston, a Cape May County Corrections Officer, spotted the vehicle traveling south on Route 9, in Cape May Court House and alerted police. Pomykacz was subsequently arrested and charged with DUI, Careless Driving, Failure to Report a Motor Vehicle Crash, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Failure to Produce vehicle registration and insurance documents.
According to court records obtained by the Herald, Pomkacz was sentenced to twelve hours in the New Jersey Intoxicated Driver Resource Center Program. She was ordered to pay a fine of $1,131 and her license was suspended for three months.
