Wildwood Officer Convicted of Beating Suspects Is Denied New Trial

By Herald Staff

COURT HOUSE– Wildwood police Sgt. David Romeo, convicted by a jury earlier this year of official misconduct, appeared in Superior Court today, the Press of Atlantic City reported this morning.
According to the report, Romeo’s attorney, John Tumelty, argued that Romeo should be acquitted despite the jury’s verdict.
Tumelty said Romeo kicked two handcuffed suspects on July 24, 2007 because he saw a weapon on the ground beside them, and that the evidence showed a weapon was present.
This afternoon the Press of Atlantic City reports, Superior Court Judge Raymond Batten has denied Wildwood police Sgt. David Romeo’s request for a new trial.
