Wildwood Business Owner Faces Drug Charges

WILDWOOD – A local resident and business owner on the Wildwood Boardwalk was arrested for offenses related to the illegal possession and sale of a scheduled I controlled dangerous substance, according to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
The arrest is a result of a collaborative Narcotics Enforcement Initiative involving members of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force, Wildwood Police Department Detective Bureau and investigators from the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. This initiative was geared towards identifying local businesses that were selling illegal designer drugs and other controlled dangerous substances.
As a result of this investigation, members of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force, Wildwood Police Department Detective Bureau and investigators from the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs executed a court authorized search warrant at a local business located on the 3200 block of the Wildwood Boardwalk. During the execution of this search warrant several items identified as Cannabidiol, synthetic marijuana, a scheduled I controlled dangerous substance, were seized.
The owner of the business, David Zarfati, 41, of Court House was arrested, charged and released on a summons complaint for the following offenses:
Possession of Cannabidols, a third degree crime.
Distribution of Cannabidols, a second degree crime.
Distribution of Cannabidols within 500 feet of a public place, a second degree crime.
Prosecutor Taylor stated that persons convicted of second degree crime may be sentenced between 5 and 10 years in New Jersey State Prison and persons convicted of third degree crimes may be sentenced between 3 and 5 years in prison.
Prosecutor Taylor described this initiative as a success, helping to keep our community drug free and our children safe from these illicit dangerous drugs, which are often being sold surreptitiously in local business as non harmful products. Prosecutor Taylor also thanked each of the agencies involved in this investigation and ensured the citizens of Cape May County that his office will continue to seek out persons selling illegal substances in the community and prosecute them to the fullest extent.

The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
