Whitesboro Man Charged With Eluding Police on ATV

By Press Release

RIO GRANDE– On June 18, Ptl. Jason Sweitzer and Sgt. Pat Conte were in the old Burleigh Wawa parking lot when they observed a Red Honda ATV traveling North on Route 9 past their location. The two occupants on the quad were not wearing helmets and traveling in the middle of the road.
Ptl. Sweitzer and Sgt. Conte started to pull toward the exit of the parking lot as Ptl. Sweitzer activated his emergency air horn and waived the driver to pull over. The driver of the quad, Craig White Jr., age 21 of Whitesboro, quickly turned around and headed South on Route 9 at a high rate of speed.
Both patrol vehicles pulled out after the quad which was driving South on Route 9. The quad drove in the center of the road and on the shoulder of the road, passing cars. The quad turned West onto Main Street where the officers lost sight of him. Officers were able to determine that the driver turned South on the railroad tracks because of a dust trail in the air.
A perimeter was set up with other officers because it was believed that the quad was still in the area. After a few minutes, Ptl. Sweitzer apprehended White who was attempting to hide on the railroad tracks.
White was arrested for Eluding police and he was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released on a summons.
White’s passenger, a 17 year old juvenile, was transported to police headquarters at her mother’s request where she was released. The juvenile was charged with Failure to wear a helmet while a passenger.
White was charged with many motor vehicle violations and Eluding police which is a 2nd degree charge.
