This report is based on information received from law enforcement.
SWAINTON – Middle Township Police Department responded to the 1800 block Route 9 North in Swainton May 22, at 5:13 p.m., to check the well being of a subject reported to be out of control. The first officer on scene, Patrolman Dylan Young, came in contact with the subject, Robert Mesterhazy, 38, who exited his residence as Young approached, according to a release.
Young was conducting his investigation when Mesterhazy attempted to go into the residence, and Young followed, at which point Mesterhazy slammed the interior door into Young. Young put his hands up to shield himself from the door when his right hand and arm went through a pane of glass in the door.
Young was able to give commands to Mesterhazy and place him under arrest with the assistance of another officer who arrived on scene as back up. Middle Township EMS (emergency medical services) responded to the scene and treated Young’s arm, which received several large lacerations, and transported him to Cape Regional Medical Center. Young was later released after treatment.
Mesterhazy was charged with obstruction of justice, a disorderly persons offense, criminal mischief for damage to the residence, a disorderly persons offense, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, third degree. Mesterhazy was processed and is currently at the Cape Regional Medical Center, where he remains in custody.
