WEST CAPE MAY – Jay T. Calcott, 51, of Cape May, was arrested in West Cape May, May 13 shortly after 2 p.m. on unlawful weapons possession charges.
While on patrol May 13, Patrolman Scott Krissinger observed a vehicle on Broadway in West Cape May. A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed that the registered owner of the vehicle had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
When the vehicle was stopped, Patrolman Krissinger noticed the occupants of the vehicle moving around in the vehicle in a manner consistent with attempting to conceal something.
After confirming the warrant was active, Calcott, who was driving the vehicle, was arrested. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a black pellet gun which was recovered underneath the driver’s seat.
In addition to the outstanding warrant, Calcott was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, a fourth degree offense. Calcott was released after posting bail.
He was scheduled for and appeared for his arraignment in West Cape May Municipal Court Thursday May 21 at 9 a.m.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
