VILLAS – Lower Township Police Department received a report of a woman carrying a knife and attempting to stab a dog on Bayshore Road in the Villas section of Lower Township Oct. 12 at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Officers responded to the area and encountered the woman at the intersection of Bayshore Road and Carolina Avenue. Upon exiting their patrol vehicles, the woman was holding a black handled knife with an approximate 6-inch blade. When the officers ordered her to drop the knife, she immediately took the knife in both hands and stabbed herself in the abdomen.
The officers immediately approached the woman and began treatment of the self inflicted injury. Lower Township Rescue Squad members arrived shortly after and continued medical treatment of the woman. She was eventually transported to the Cape May County Airport and flown to Atlantic City Medical Center for her injuries.
The woman is identified as Roni Hamann, 48, from the 100 block of Evergreen Avenue, Villas. Hamann’s injuries are not life threatening. She is facing weapons and trespassing charges for her actions.
No injuries were caused to any other pedestrian, officer or animal.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
