Villas Shooting Suspect Surrenders

By Deborah McGuire

COURT HOUSE – A man wanted in the Nov. 20 murder of Villas resident Christopher Turner, surrendered to authorities Nov. 26, said Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor and Lower Township Police Chief Brian Marker in a joint statement.
According to police, Bernard “Peanut” Green surrendered himself to the Cape May County Correctional Facility for the charges of first-degree murder, second-degree burglary, second-degree weapons offenses and third-degree hindering.
At approximately 12:10 a.m. on Nov. 20, Lower Township police were called to a residence at 15 Ellery Avenue in Villas for the report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers found Turner, 44, a resident of Alexander Avenue, shot multiple times and killed.
In their investigation, police believe Turner was a visitor to the residence when he was confronted by Green, a resident of Pacific Avenue in Villas. Investigators believe a confrontation between Green and Turner escalated into a physical altercation with Turner being shot by Green. Green then fled the scene.
Members of the county Prosecutor’s Office, Lower Township police, Middle Township police as well as State Police Fugitive Unit assisted in the investigation in attempting to find Green prior to his surrender.
Persons convicted of first-degree crimes are subject to imprisonment of 30 years to life in state prison, said Taylor. Persons convicted of second-degree crimes are subject to a term of imprisonment of five to 10 years in state prison; persons convicted of a third-degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of three to five years in state prison.
Green is being held in the Cape May County Correctional Facility in lieu of $750,000 full cash bail, no bond.
