RIO GRANDE – At approximately 5:45 p.m. Sept. 1 in Rio Grande, Middle Township Police Detective Daniel Martin conducted a motor vehicle stop of a white Jeep Cherokee driven by Jared Smith, 21, of Rio Grande who was suspected of driving without a license.
According to a release, during the stop, Martin saw several items he believed were taken during a recent burglary in Goshen.
Further investigation revealed the items, which included watches, jewelry and electronics were stolen during the recent burglary.
Smith was arrested and charged with one count of burglary, one count of theft and one count of conspiracy, all crimes of the third degree with bail set at $85,000 full cash.
The passenger, Darian Lehner, 18, of Goshen, was charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of theft and one count of conspiracy, all crimes of the third degree with bail set at $106,000 full cash.
Both were lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center.
