Vehicle Stop Leads to Seizure of Drugs, Loaded Handgun

ERMA — Lower Township Police Department received information that a subject would be operating a certain vehicle and would be in possession of an unknown quantity of illegal prescription drugs,Wednesday Aug. 12 at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Surveillance was set up in the area of Walnut Avenue and Bayshore Road in Villas. Shortly thereafter the subject was seen traveling on Bayshore Road when he was stopped.
Lower Township Detectives approached the subject who immediately turned over numerous illegal prescription pills and upon further inquiry a consent to search form was signed. During a search of the vehicle, a loaded Beretta semiautomatic handgun was recovered near the driver’s seat.
Additionally, a small amount of marijuana was surrendered to police at the suspect’s residence by his girlfriend.
It was determined that the driver and only subject in the vehicle was identified as Millard W. Jordan III, 29, of the 2100 block of Bayshore Road in Villas. Jordan was found to be in possession of the loaded handgun and the possession of 15 Oxycotin 80 mg pills. The street value of these narcotics is approximately $65 to $80 per pill.
Jordan was arrested at the scene and transported to the Lower Township Police Department for processing. He was charged with unlawful possession of the loaded handgun, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, possession of marijuana, possession of prescription narcotics and possession with the intent to distribute.
Judge David DeWeese set bail at $100,000.00 for all charges and Jordan was then transferred to the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of bail.
Detective First Class Mel Hedum and Detective Chris Lambert investigated the case.
