UPDATED: ‘Marlboro’ Shoplifter Surrenders to Police

CAPE MAY — On Jan. 23 at 1 p.m., Jeffery W. Horberg, 19, of Villas, surrendered to Cape May Police in connection with an alleged theft from the CVS Pharmacy, 139 W. Myrtle Ave. in West Cape May, Jan. 2.
The suspect walked to the cash register by the front door, and asked for an item. He then grabbed a carton of Marlboro menthol cigarettes valued at $73.63 and left the store.
The store’s surveillance cameras captured his entry and exit. The video was posted on the Cape May County Herald Web site for public assistance in the identification process.
Horberg viewed himself on the Herald Web site and decided to turn himself over to police.
Subsequently, Horberg was charged with theft and was released pending a hearing in West Cape May Municipal Court.
Cooperation from the Cape May County Herald and the Cape May County Crime Stoppers led to the arrest in this case, police said.
