UPDATED: Lower Township Police to Hold Annual Memorial for Fallen Officer

ERMA — Lower Township Police Department will mark the 16th anniversary of the line of duty death of Officer David C. Douglass Sr. on Feb. 18 with a flag raising in front of Town Bank Fire Hall, 224 Townbank Rd, at 10:30 a.m.
Later that evening at 7:15 p.m., all of the township’s fire sirens will sound in honor of Douglass who was an active member of the Town Bank Fire Company.
Douglass was shot and killed Feb. 18, 1994 after responding to a suspicious person call in North Cape May. While pursuing a burglary suspect on foot, the suspect turned and shot Douglass who returned fire striking the suspect in the hand. Douglass was able to make it back to his patrol car but did not survive the attack.
Following an intensive investigation, Lower Township police arrested the suspect in New York City in April 1994.
