COURT HOUSE- Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor and Middle Township Chief of Police Christopher Leusner report that earlier this week, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico advised the Cape May County Prosecutors Office that they would no longer extradite Johnathan-Rodriquez Ocasio, who was arrested last week for a murder warrant out of their jurisdiction.
The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office contacted the office of Governor Chris Christie and offers were made to assist Puerto Rico with the financial burden of extradition, but they still refused to extradite Ocasio. This refusal by Puerto Rico triggers an automatic dismissal of the fugitive from justice charge and Ocasio was released from the Cape May County Correctional Facility. The Cape May County Prosecutors and Middle Township Police Department have been in contact with officials from the New Jersey State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation about Puerto Rico’s refusal to extradite Ocasio.
