UPDATE: Police Respond to Suicide Threat in North Cape May

NORTH CAPE MAY – Lower Township Police received information that a 46-year-old male resident on the 200 Block of Roseann Avenue in the North Cape May Section of Lower Township threatened suicide by means of a high caliber hand gun July 30 at approximately 2:05 p.m.
Initial information was unclear whether other household members were present. Lower Township Police responded to the scene and established a perimeter. Nearby residents were evacuated for their safety.
After numerous failed attempts to make contact with the suicidal subject and a growing fear that other family members were trapped inside the residence, Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, the County Regional SWAT Team, County Hostage Negotiation Team and the Office of Emergency Management, were requested for assistance.
At approximately 4:00 p.m., County Regional SWAT made contact with the 46-year-old male. He was secured. The home was checked to ensure no one else was inside. No other occupants were located in the residence.
A Sturm Ruger .44 Magnum, revolver type handgun was recovered and secured by Lower Township Detectives.
The male subject was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for a psychological evaluation.
Also assisting during this two hour period, mutual aid from Wildwood Police Department and Cape May City Police Department. These agencies assisted in covering our routine calls.

Scanner reports indicated police activity on Roseann Ave. in North Cape May July 30 after 3:00 p.m. Police blocked off streets in the area.
Police confirmed the activity was cleared around 4:30 p.m. Scanner reports indicated that police have a suspect in custody.
Police say a press release regarding the activity is forthcoming and that there is no further information available at this time.
