UPDATE: Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Attempting to Enter Residence with Occupants Inside

STONE HARBOR – Stone Harbor Police responded to a private residence on the 8900 block of 1st Avenue after a 911 call was received where the resident reported a male trespassing in his fenced in backyard Aug. 18 at 12:45 a.m.
Officers were then advised that the male was attempting forced entry to the residence and threatening the occupants of the house.
Upon officer arrival on scene, the suspect, now identified as John Hopkins Worrall, 49, from Norton, MA, was observed actively attempting to force the rear door of the residence open while the occupants of the residence were attempting to keep the door shut. Worrall was placed under arrest by Patrolman Anthony TireIli and transported to the Stone Harbor Police Department.
Further investigation revealed WorraII was intoxicated and threatened to kill the resident while attempting to force the rear door open.
Municipal Court Judge Morrison was contacted and set bail for Worrall at $5,000 with a 10 percent option based on the charge of terroristic threats, a crime of the third degree. Worrall was also charged with defiant trespass and disorderly conduct, both petty disorderly persons offenses.
Worrall was processed and transported to the Cape May County Correctional Facility in leiu of bail. Bail was later posted and Worrall was released.
Upon review of the case, and the continuing investigation conducted by the Stone Harbor Police Department Detective Division, Stone Harbor Municipal Court Judge Fowler was contacted and granted an arrest warrant be issued for Worrall on the charges of burglary and criminal attempt, both crimes of the second degree.
An attempt by the Stone Harbor Police to serve the warrant at a local address determined that Worrall had left New Jersey. Worrall learned of the active warrant and contacted the Stone Harbor Police Department to make arrangements to turn himself in.
Worrall, accompanied by his attorney arrived at the Stone Harbor Police Department and was taken into custody Aug. 19 at 11:37 a.m. Judge Fowler was contacted and set bail at $35,000, no 10 percent. Worrall was served his charges and remanded to the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of bail.
Worrall was charged with burglary and criminal attempt, both second degree crimes due to the threats that were made to the victim.
The case is pending review from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
