WILDWOOD — James Hoyle has been apprehended.
He was wanted in connection with the overnight shooting of a Wildwood man that occurred just before 11 p.m., Wed., Aug. 4 in the area of West Roberts and Arctic avenues.
On Thur., Aug. 5, about 2 p.m, Hoyle turned himself in at Wildwood Police Department. He was taken into custody and processed for the outstanding charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession and certain persons not to possess a weapon.
He was remanded to county jail in lieu of bail.
According to several bystanders at least four shots were fired. The victim, a black male reported to be in his late 20s, was shot in the abdomen.
The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office identified the victim as Shariff Wilson, 30. It was reported that he was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses said Wilson was conscious when police arrived however the man appeared to be seriously wounded. He was airlifted to the trauma unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City by Medevac 5.
On Thursday afternoon, the victim’s condition was improved, and his injuries were considered non-life threatening, according to a joint release from the County Prosecutor and Wildwood police.
The investigation continues into the incident.
According to the state Department of Corrections, Hoyle was paroled on May 13 after serving 2 1/2 years on drug possession and weapons charges.
Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor commended Wildwood Police for rapid response to the incident, and to the public for its cooperation with the investigation, both of which were instrumental in Hoyle’s apprehension, the release stated.
