UPDATE: Driver Charged with New Year’s Eve Hit, Run

WHITESBORO – Middle Township Police Department arrested Garry Pyryt, 62, of Villas, Jan. 1 and charged him with being the hit and run driver of a crash involving a pedestrian on Route 9 in Whitesboro Dec. 31 at 7:15 p.m.
Pyryt was criminally charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a crash resulting in serious injury, third degree; and with the following motor vehicle summonses: careless driving, fail to maintain a lane, failure to report a crash, and leaving the scene of a crash. He was released on a summons.
The pedestrian, James Johnson, 38, of Whitesboro, was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. He sustained an ankle fracture.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty. This report is based on information received from law enforcement.
