WOODBINE– A volunteer firefighter’s sport-utility-vehicle was stolen from the Woodbine Fire Department’s parking lot after firefighters were dispatched to an explosion at the Woodbine Developmental Center Monday morning.
Fire Chief Clarence Ryan said when they returned to the firehouse at 3. p.m., the firefighter whose name was not released was unable to locate the vehicle where it was parked.
Ryan said the keys were left in the vehicle which is a common practice by firefighters in general. “Probably all the firefighters leave keys in their vehicle and we’ve never once had a vehicle stolen or anything taken from them, he said.
Firefighters notified the state police at the Woodbine station and began driving up and down the streets in the Borough. Within the hour, one of the firefighters located the SUV four blocks away on Grant Avenue, Ryan said.
State Troopers responded to the scene and dusted for finger prints.
A 17 year-old juvenile from South Seaville has been charged in the theft, according to Trooper Cresci who investigated.
