UPDATE: Additional Charges Filed in Whitesboro Church Shooting

Additional charges were filed on William Adams, 28, of Whitesboro police announced. Adams is now charged with third-degree aggravated assault and unlawful handgun possession charges, police said. He had been previously charged with eluding police and possession of marijuana.
Adams was lodged in Cape May County jail on $100,000 cash bail, police said

WHITESBORO– Middle Township police have one person in custody following a shooting here at the Christ Gospel Church. At 1:57 p.m., Middle Township police communications received a 9-1-1 report of a man shooting a gun in the parking lot of Christ Gospel Church, according to Sgt. Rich McHale.
Patrol units immediately responded to the scene, follow-up information received from people on-scene reported two vehicles a white conversion van and a newer model silver in color Nissan Maxima fled the scene. The Maxima had Pennsylvania tags.
Corporal Fred Crawley observed the white van turn left onto Indian Trail Road, as he attempted to close the distance, and stop the van as part of this investigation the van turned right on Shunpike Road, and then abruptly turned into the driveway of a home, on Shunpike Road. Cpl. Crawley followed the vehicle into the driveway, where the driver exited the van, and fled on foot, west, in a heavily wooded area. Sergeant Richard McHale, Senior Officer Sittineri, Patrolman Julio Ruiz, Patrolman James Loftus and Patrolman Tracey Super set up a perimeter of the surrounding area, containing the subject, and taking him into custody.
William Adams, 28, of George Street in Whitesboro was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and Eluding a Law Enforcement Officer. Additional charges are pending.
Cape Regional Medical Center didn’t report anyone seeking treatment for a gunshot wound and no one reported being injured on the scene.
Assisting with multiple searches for the gun, were members of the Cape May County Sheriff’s Department, K-9 Unit. McHale said the firearm used in the shooting has not been located.
The suspects who fled in the Nissan Maxima have not been located.
