WILDWOOD – On May 10 at approximately 4:30 a.m. members of the Wildwood Police Department Uniformed Patrol Division responded to the area of B building in the Commissioner Courts Housing Complex, 3700 New Jersey Avenue, on a report of a man with a gun in the area.
Upon their arrival on the scene, three men were observed in the west side parking lot of the complex.
Police personnel observed one subject throw an object under a car in the parking lot. The object was found to be a loaded Tec 22 semi-automatic assault weapon.
Two subjects were arrested as a result of this incident.
The man who had thrown the weapon under the vehicle was identified as Wilfredo Perez-Salvat, 24 year-old unemployed laborer. He resides at 219 East Burk Avenue in Wildwood.
The second accused was identified as Rafael Delgado-Soto, 49, who is a self-employed handyman and resides at 219 East Burk Avenue in Wildwood.
Investigation into the incident by members of the Wildwood Police Department Uniformed Patrol Division and Wildwood Police Department Detective Division showed that Mr. Delgado-Soto had attempted to shoot a male victim multiple times but was unable to do so as the weapon malfunctioned.
Mr. Delgado-Soto then struck the victim in the head with the weapon.
Two live, discharged rounds were recovered at the scene, as well a round in the chamber of the weapon and additional rounds of ammunition in the magazine of the weapon.
Mr. Delgado-Soto was charged with criminal attempt homicide (crime of the 1st degree), aggravated assault (clime of the 2nd degree), conspiracy to commit an aggravated assault (crime of the 2n1 degree), possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (crime of the 2nd degree), unlawful possession of a weapon (crime of the 2nd degree), certain person not to possess a weapon (crime of the 4th degree), and obstruction of justice (crime of the 4th degree).
Mr. Perez-Salvat was charged with criminal attempt homicide (crime of the 1st degree), conspiracy to commit aggravated assault (crime of the 2nd degree), possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (crime of the 2nd degree), unlawful possession of a weapon (crime of the 2nd degree), and hindering apprehension (clime of the 31-d degree).
Bail for Mr. Delgado-Soto for the criminal attempt homicide was set at $300,000, no ten percent and no contact with the victim by the Honorable Judge Raymond Batten. Bail was set at $100,000.00 no ten percent and no contact with the victim for the additional charges by the Honorable Judge David DeWeese.
