COURT HOUSE– County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor announced today the return of an Indictment against Jeffery A. Brault, 47, of Cape May Court House, for Theft by Deception, a third degree crime; three counts of Forgery, a fourth degree crime; three counts of Uttering a Forged Instrument, a fourth degree crime; two counts of Attempted Theft by Deception, a third degree crime; Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition, a third degree crime; and Conspiracy, a third degree crime.
The Indictment was also returned against Maria Brault, 50, Cape May Court House, for the sole count of Conspiracy, a third degree crime.
The investigation, conducted by members of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit, involved the submission of fraudulent invoices by Jeffery and Maria Brault, doing business as Select Builders, Inc., to a homeowner in Avalon.
Select Builders, Inc. develops and constructs custom homes. These acts were alleged to have been committed between October 2008 and March 2009.
Persons who are convicted of third degree crimes may be incarcerated between three and five years. Persons who are convicted of fourth degree crimes may be incarcerated up to eighteen months.
