Two Charged in March Burglary

Trinity Thornburg.

By Press Release

AVALON – Avalon Police Department has charged two Middle Township residents with burglary, theft and other offenses after police obtained information they were involved in a winter-time burglary within the Borough. In late March, homeowners discovered their vacation home had been broken into and personal property removed from the residence.
Police charged Trinity Thornburg, 27, and Frederick Rice, Jr., 25, both with last known addresses in Burleigh, with burglary, theft and conspiracy. Rice was also charged with receiving stolen property.
Police allege Thornburg and Rice drove to Avalon in late January to target the victim’s home, planning to steal electronics, jewelry and other valuables. Once they gained entry to the home, they discovered the homeowners had removed most of their personal property for the season. Thornburg was incarcerated at the Cape May County Correctional Center after failing to post $30,000 cash bail and Rice was released on recognizance authorized by Judge Dorothy Garrabrant of Avalon Municipal Court. The case was investigated by Detective Matthew Sykes and Patrolman Greg Armstrong.
The matter is pending review by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
Borough residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity to Avalon Police Department at 967-3411 or by dialing 911.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty. This report is based on information received from law enforcement.
