Two Arrests Made in Wildwood Shooting

WILDWOOD – County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Chief Robert Regalbuto of the Wildwood Police Department announce the arrest of Wayne Roberts, 21, and Alexander Camillo, 20, for a shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of June 29 in the City of Wildwood.
At approximately 4 a.m. June 29, Wildwood Patrol Officers responded to the 300 East Block of Juniper Avenue for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, an 18-year-old man, lying on the sidewalk suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was treated by paramedics and the Wildwood Fire/Rescue Squad, and airlifted to the Trauma Unit of Atlantic City Medical Center.
Detectives from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Wildwood Police Department responded to the scene and initiated an investigation into the shooting.
As a result of the investigation, numerous court authorized search warrants were executed in the 300 East Block of Juniper Avenue, including three vehicles.
As a result of the investigation, Roberts of the 1200 Block of Morton Street in Camden, N.J., and Alexander Camillo of the 2400 Block of Amber Street in Philadelphia, Pa., were both charged with aggravated assault, a crime of the second degree; possession of a firearm for unlawful purpose, a crime of the second degree; certain person prohibited from possessing a handgun, a crime of the second degree; possession of a handgun without a permit, a crime of the third degree; and hindering apprehension, a crime of the third degree. Both individuals were lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of bail set by Judge Dorothy Garrabrant, JMC. Roberts bail was set at $250,000 cash/bond and Camillo’s bail was set at $325,000 cash/bond.
Individuals charged with crimes of the second degree could be sentenced to 5-10 years in State prison and crimes of the third degree could face a penalty of up to 3-5 years in prison.
Prosecutor Taylor commended the cooperative efforts between the members of the Wildwood Police Department and the Prosecutor’s Office who assisted in this investigation. At the time of this release, the victim was listed in stable condition.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendants are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
