Twenty-one Years Later Search for Himebaugh Continues

By Deborah McGuire

COURT HOUSE — Nov. 25 was the 21st anniversary of the disappearance of Mark Himebaugh. The 11-year-old boy disappeared from the Del Haven section of Middle Township on November 25, 1991 and was never seen again. His disappearance has baffled police, friends and family for decades, however the search for the red-haired lad, now 32 years old, continues.
Investigators are continuing to seek information from the Himebaugh family, friends, neighbors, and members of the public to bring this investigation to a close.
In January 2012, an anonymous donor offered up to $25,000 to help solve the case of the disappearance of Himebaugh. The anonymous donor offered $10,000 for credible information about Himebaugh’s disappearance and $25,000 for his safe return to his family. The Middle Township Police Department and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office are hoping the reward money will encourage someone to come forward with information that would assist investigators in solving this investigation.
“I’m begging, pleading that if you could come forward with any information. Go back in your memory. Someone might have said something to you. You might have overheard something or saw something that day, or something recently someone said to you that will tell us what happened that cold, windy Monday,” said his mother, Maureen Himebaugh a during a November, 2011 press conference.
”We continue to receive tips from all across the country about this particular case,” said County Prosecutor Robert Taylor at the January press conference announcing the $25,000 reward. “None of them have been successful so far but we will continue to look into every tip and lead that we get until such time that we are successful in solving this case.”
Tips can be reported anonymously to Crime Stoppers at (609) 465-2800 or by text message at TIP-411. In the subject heading, type CMCSO, to indicate it is for the county sheriff. An independent party called Citizen Observer will transmit the relevant information to the Sheriff’s Office without revealing the tipster’s identity. Tips can also be received at the Middle Township Police Department at (609) 465-8700 or the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office at (609) 465-1135.
