Three Face Kidnap, Conspiracy Charges Involving Woman, Child

WILDWOOD – Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Wildwood Police Chief Robert Regalbuto announce the arrest of Jason Rue, 34, and JennyVon Vasquez, 31, both from Ewing, N.J., and Jose Hernandez, 19, of Wildwood.
On Feb. 5 at approximately 9:02 p.m., officers from the Wildwood Police Department responded to the 100 East block Schellenger Avenue for the report of a woman being held against her will at that location.  
Upon arrival, an investigation was immediately conducted by detectives from the Wildwood Police Department and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office. Members of the Cape May County Regional SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team also responded to assist with this investigation.
It was subsequently learned that a female victim, along with her 1-year-old child were removed from the location by Rue, Vasquez and Hernandez and were held at a residence in the 100 East block Leaming Avenue in Wildwood.
The female victim was later able to escape her captors and was located with the assistance of the Wildwood Crest Police Department in the area of Hildreth and Pacific avenues. The female victim and her 1-year-old child were subsequently transported to Cape Regional Medical Center, where they were treated and released for injuries sustained during this ordeal. The defendants were subsequently identified and arrested.
Rue was charged with kidnapping, first degree, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, second degree, aggravated assault, second degree, burglary, second degree, conspiracy to commit burglary, second degree, endangering the welfare of a child, second degree, theft, third degree, possession of a weapon, third degree, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, fourth degree.
Vasquez and Hernandez were both charged with kidnapping, first degree, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, second degree, burglary, second degree, conspiracy to commit burglary, second degree, endangering the welfare of a child, second degree, and theft, third degree.
As a result of the charges Rue, Vasquez and Hernandez were lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center awaiting court proceedings.
Taylor advises that persons convicted of a first degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of 10 to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison; persons convicted of a second degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of five to 10 years; persons convicted of a third degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of three to five years and persons convicted of a fourth degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment not to exceed 18 months.
Taylor and Regalbuto recognize the efforts of the agencies involved in this investigation resulting in a successful conclusion.
