AVALON – Avalon Police Department arrested a Gloucester County man Thursday, May 28 in relation to a previously reported incident in which a knife was brandished to threaten four women leaving a local business.
During that reported encounter, the victims dialed 911 stating a white male had just threatened them with a knife and fled on foot after taking money from one of the victims. Upon police arrival, the suspect was no longer on scene. Based on a description and information obtained from the victims, police developed probable cause to issue an arrest warrant for Charles L. Quirk, 20, of Wenonah, N.J. Quirk is also known as “Charlie Blaze”. Quirk is a seasonal resident of the Borough of Avalon.
After learning of a warrant for his arrest, Quirk turned himself in to Avalon Police. Quirk was charged with terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated assault, and theft. He was released on $50,000 10 percent bail set by Judge George Neidig of the Avalon Municipal Court. The investigating officer was Detective Matthew Sykes. The Avalon Police Department wishes to thank the New Jersey State Police who developed a composite sketch of the suspect that assisted in the arrest. This matter has been sent to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
