Squatter in Shed Charged with Burglary, Theft

The following is based on information received from a law enforcement agency. The person(s) named is innocent until proven otherwise in court.
                                
NORTH WILDWOOD – At approximately 12:31 p.m. Jan. 11, North Wildwood Police responded to the 200 block of West 23rd Avenue for a report of a squatter staying in a rear shed.  According to a release, an investigation revealed the suspected squatter was Matthew Loughlin.
Also found with him in the shed were tools, which were reported stolen from a nearby construction site a few weeks prior..
Officer Dominic DeMusz, who was canvassing the area on foot around the corner, spotted a subject walking who matched the description of Loughlin.  
After seeing the officer, Loughlin fled south into Wildwood into the area of the 100 block W. Juniper Avenue.   
Detective Sgt. Adam McGraw, Officer Mark Elliott and DeMusz responded and, with the assistance of officers from the Wildwood Police Department, took Loughlin into custody after he was found hiding on a rooftop.
Loughlin, 37, residing in Cape May,  was charged with burglary and theft. He was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center on a warrant for those charges.
