Slain Officer Remembered in Lower

By Herald Staff

On Feb. 18, the Lower Township Police Department will commemorate the line of duty death of Officer David C. Douglass Sr.
Douglass was shot and killed 14 years ago while responding to a report of a suspicious person. According to police, the suspect had just burglarized a home and set it on fire.
The department will honor Douglass at a flag ceremony 10 a.m. at Township Hall, after which flags at all township buildings will fly at half staff in honor of Douglass. At approximately 7:15 p.m., the time Douglass responded to his last call, all fire sirens in the Township will be activated in memory of Douglass who was also an active Townbank firefighter.
The department also holds an annual award ceremony in Douglass’ name.
Chief Edward Donohue stated that “Feb. 18 is a somber day for the Lower Township Police Department, but it is also a day to reflect on how Officer Douglass lived, and the example he set for younger officers in the department.”
