RIO GRANDE – On Friday, April 29, Patrolman Jason Sill and his wife, Dispatcher Madonna Sill, both employees of Middle Township, were off duty and in the area of KMART in Rio Grande. While in the area both could see two male subjects running from the area of the store with a KMART security person chasing the subjects. Believing the subjects were possibly shoplifters, Patrolman Sill started chasing after the subjects on foot while Dispatcher Sill called 911. The foot pursuit continued in the area of Old Rio Grande Boulevard until Patrolman Sill apprehended one of the subjects in the area of Miracle Fitness; at the same time responding officer Patrolman Daniel Martin arrived. Martin secured the one subject while Patrolman Sill chased the other subject and apprehended him in the area of Payless Shoes. The subjects, Michael Running, age 32, of Rio Grande, and Jonathan Murphy, age 30, also of Rio Grande,were taken to headquarters and charged with shoplifting. Running was taken to Cape Regional Medical Center for an evaluation due taking an unknown amount of pills prior to arrest. Murphy had a previous warrant out of Middle Township and was placed on a warrant for the shoplifting. Murphy was taken to the Cape May County Jail in lieu of $2625.00 Bail.
