Security Alert from Local Community Banks, Police

By Herald Staff

COURT HOUSE — Security officers from local community banks, and Lower Township Police Chief Edward Donohue, are alerting people of a scam involving debit cards.
According to a release from Sturdy Savings Bank, “An unknown source is dialing cell phones, telling people their debit cards have been inactivated and prompting them to press “1”. Those who press “1” are then instructed to leave their debit card number, zip code and card security code. The call then abruptly ends. The calls are emanating from a number listed only as 965.
Security Officers are warning people to hang up should they receive such a call. They said such information should never be given to an unknown source. Those with questions, or who received the call are urged to call their bank and the Federal Trade Commission at 877-382-4357.
