CAMDEN –– A Sea Isle City man was charged by three Camden county police departments with multiple sex crimes involving a teenage boy.
Acing Camden County Prosecutor Joshua Ottenberg, Haddonfield Police Chief Rick Tsonis, Barrington Police Chief Joseph Eisenhardt and Bellmawr Police Chief William Walsh, reported Feb. 27 that a Sea Isle man has been charged with repeatedly paying for sex with a teenage boy.
Michael Shumen, 38, was charged with multiple counts of 2nd degree sexual assault, 2nd degree promoting prostitution of a minor and 3rd degree endangering the welfare of a child by police in Haddonfield, Barrington and Bellmawr.
Shumen was arrested Feb. 22 at Barrington’s Make-A-Wish Park by investigators from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Child Abuse Unit and the Barrington Police following an intensive investigation.
The teenage victim, who is now 17 years old, was 14 to 16 years old when the incidents occurred from July 2005 to November 2006.
The encounters allegedly happened repeatedly in cars, in hotels and in a public park. Investigators allege Shumen paid for the encounters with the teen, who he knew through a friend.
The amounts he paid varied, but it is alleged Shuman at least once paid up to $2,000 for an encounter.
Investigators said jt is possible other charges will be brought against Shumen in other municipalities.

Shumen was released from the Camden County Jail after posting $100,000 bail Feb. 26.
