CAPE MAY – A hush of expectation lingers in the wake of Superior Court Judge Julio Mendez’s expected ruling on regional school district matters. “He (Mendez) would make a decision in several days,” Lower Cape May Regional (LCMR) Superintendent Christopher Kobik said.
The Sept. 25 ruling came after Cape May City council discussed the matter of school funding at the Aug. 19 meeting. In the absence of a direct decision, the question of who will pay for the ballot on Cape May question still stands.
Deputy Mayor Jack Wichterman was not available for comment Sept. 26 and Louise Cummiskey of Cape May City Hall refrained from comment on the potential ruling.
Concern over disadvantaged areas in relation to the tax burden led Cape May City to take up the issue of funding in the last few years with much debate coming from both sides.
