Rio Home Invaded by Alleged Burglar

By Herald Staff

RIO GRANDE — Middle Township police reported a home invasion on Holly Drive at 1:59 a.m. July 17.
According to police the area is a residential neighborhood.
A suspect, described as a black male, about 6 feet, tall, thin build, who wore a burgundy shirt and blue jeans, allegedly entered an occupied residence, went through some drawers, and then assaulted a female resident.
The resident sustained minor injuries.
The suspect was confronted by the victim’s husband and son, and fled the residence on foot.
He was last seen running east, toward Wildwood, on Route 47. Nothing was taken in the incident.
The County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit and Middle Township detectives were called to the scene.
A search by the K-9 unit failed to produce the suspect. Detectives are currently examining physical evidence left at the scene.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Middle Township Police Department Detective Bureau at (609) 465-8700.
As a precaution, police remind homeowners to always lock their doors and vehicles, especially during the summer, when many transient people are in the area.
